About Dan Harris |
| |
My
name is Daniel Harris, Jr. and I am
seeking the office of County Commission
District #1, Montgomery County. I
believe that Montgomery County is on the
verge of a period of unprecedented
growth both in population and economic
development. With this growth, the
community will face many new challenges
in dealing with the stress placed on
those vital services that the county
support and/or provide; such as
education, infrastructure, crime
reduction/prevention, court funding, and
the issues arising out of the changing
demographics of our county. Without
question, I am the one to provide the
type of progressive leadership needed to
address these and other challenges. The
ultimate goal being an improved quality
of life for all Montgomerians.
I am a native Montgomerian. Growing up,
my family lived in the Cleveland Court
Apartments, during a time when the
“village” really did help raise the
child. I am a product of the Cleveland
Avenue YMCA, where I excelled in
swimming, basketball and football.
After graduating from George Washington
Carver High School, I enlisted in the
United States Air Force at the height of
the Viet Nam War. Upon my return home, I
enrolled at Alabama State University
while working full-time for the ICG (GMO)
and L&N Railroads. I also worked as a
Deputy in the Montgomery County Sheriff
Department.
Upon graduation from ASU with a Bachelor
of Science Degree, I enrolled at
Creighton University School of Law,
graduating with the Juris Doctor Degree.
I then accepted a corporate counsel
position at a fortune 500 company, where
I had worked as a law clerk while in law
school. During my 23 year career at the
company, I rose to the position of
Litigation Department Manager and
retired in 2003 as Vice President and
Associate General Counsel.
Since retiring, I’ve earned a Master of
Science Degree from Auburn University
Montgomery and have generously
volunteered my time and talents to
various municipal, county, community and
church boards. I currently serve as
President of ISTAP (I Support the
Athletics Program at ASU) and Vice
Chairman of the Montgomery County
Community Correction Authority. I am a
member of the Board of Elders at United
Evangelical Lutheran Church,
a past Polemarch of the Montgomery
Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi
Fraternity, Inc. and a member of the
Montgomery County Democratic Party
Executive Committee.
I am married to the former Deborah E.
Mitchell together we are the parents of
six and grandparents of four.
I am eager to use my experience and
talents to help Montgomery County be
recognized as the best place to live in
America. |
